Research & Clinical Focus
Our Research
Our clinical research is centered on outcomes that meaningfully reduce the daily burden of disease and restore independence where it has been lost. Under IRB-approved clinical protocols, we study whether stem cell therapies can contribute to functional improvement across conditions with significant unmet medical need.

Areas of Focus
Research & Clinical Focus
Our areas of research and clinical focus include neurologic recovery following injury, cognitive function and activities of daily living in Alzheimer's-type dementia, visual function improvement in patients with vision loss, pulmonary function improvement in individuals with COPD, ILD, and toxin exposure, reduction of chronic pain syndromes, and improvement in PTSD symptom burden.
These outcomes are not abstract. They reflect clinically meaningful shifts from dependence to independence, isolation to connection, and endurance to relief.
The purpose of medicine is not simply to extend life, but to restore quality of life and return people to the lives they were meant to live.
Our Impact
Measured Clinical Outcomes
The Maule Stem Cell Research Institute conducts IRB-approved clinical research focused on one objective: improving quality of life and restoring independence through measurable clinical outcomes.
Our protocols evaluate stem cell therapies in disease states where symptom burden and loss of function profoundly affect daily living. Outcomes are tracked using standardized clinical testing and patient-reported measures.
What we measure:
- Standardized pain scales (0–10)
- Functional mobility and daily activity
- Opioid medication use
What we are seeing:
- 76% of patients report pain scores below 3 (out of 10) at 12 weeks post-treatment
- Of those achieving pain reduction below 3, 92% discontinue all opioid pain medications
What we measure:
- Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs)
- Chest CT imaging
- Respiratory symptom scoring
- Oxygen dependence and exertional tolerance
What we are seeing:
- Average 24% improvement in pulmonary function on serial PFTs
- 72% improvement in respiratory symptom scores
- Many oxygen-dependent patients reduce or discontinue supplemental oxygen
What we measure:
- MoCA or Global Assessment scores
- Short-term memory testing
- Mental status examinations
- Disability and functional independence scoring
What we are seeing:
- Substantial improvements in cognitive testing scores
- Improved activities of daily living
- Improved recognition of family members and engagement
What we measure:
- Visual acuity testing
- Visual field testing
- Patient-reported functional vision
What we are seeing:
- Measurable improvements in visual field and visual acuity testing
- Improved color perception and object definition
What we measure:
- Frequency and severity of episodes
- Sleep quality
- Functional engagement
What we are seeing:
- Marked reductions in frequency and severity of PTSD episodes
- Improved sleep, emotional regulation, and daily functioning
Each protocol uses objective clinical testing alongside patient-reported outcomes. We measure success by independence restored and life returned to living.
Disease Modification
Groundbreaking Protocols for Advanced Conditions
This approach offers hope to those affected by degenerative joint diseases like osteoarthritis, neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's, spinal cord injuries, and autoimmune conditions like diabetes, liver disease, psoriasis, and rheumatoid arthritis.
Our research spans autoimmune disease, respiratory disease (COPD, cystic fibrosis, pulmonary fibrosis), gastrointestinal disease (IBS, Crohn's, celiac), and neurologic disease (Alzheimer's, Huntington's, Parkinson's).
